Privacy Policy
Effective Date: July 28, 2026
In Short: Your focus sessions, statistics and settings stay on your device — we never upload them. The app does send anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase, so that we can see which features people actually use and fix crashes. That is the only data that leaves your device, none of it identifies you, and you can switch it off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Usage & Diagnostics.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Data Stored Only on Your Device
ZenFocus stores the following on your device, and only on your device:
- Focus session records (duration, activity type, date, and any tag you created)
- App settings and preferences (session length, timer mode, ambient sound, volume, theme, language, notification choices)
- Statistics, streaks and progress data
Important: This data is never uploaded to our servers or to any third party. We have no user accounts and no server that could hold a copy of it.
1.2 Analytics and Crash Diagnostics
To understand how the app is used and to fix problems, ZenFocus sends the following to Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics):
- Anonymous usage events — which screen was opened; when a focus session is started, completed or cancelled, together with its length, timer mode and activity type; which ambient sound was selected; theme and language changes; and app opens. These record actions, described by fixed labels and numbers.
- Crash and error reports — stack traces and the technical state of the app at the moment it failed.
- Basic technical information — device model, operating system version, app version, language, and an approximate region derived from your IP address.
- A randomly generated installation identifier — created by Firebase so that events from a single installation can be counted together. It is not your name, email address, phone number, advertising identifier or device serial number, and it is replaced if you reinstall the app.
This information is used in aggregate. We do not use it to identify you, we do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, phone number)
- Precise location data
- Contacts, photos, microphone or camera access
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android)
- Text you type into the app, including the names of tags you create — those never leave your device
2. How We Use Your Information
Data stored on your device is used solely to:
- Display your focus session history
- Calculate statistics and progress
- Save your app preference settings
- Provide a personalized focus experience
The anonymous analytics and crash data described in section 1.2 is used solely to:
- Understand which features are used, so we know what to improve
- Find and fix crashes and errors
- Measure whether a change to the app made it better or worse
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
Session records and statistics are stored in a local SQLite database on your device; settings and preferences are stored in your device's local preference storage. Both are protected by your operating system's security measures.
3.2 Data Transmission
Your session records, statistics and settings are never transmitted. The only data that leaves your device is the anonymous analytics and crash information described in section 1.2, plus a periodic request to fetch remote configuration (see section 4.3). All of it is sent over encrypted connections.
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 Audio Content
ZenFocus uses ambient sound effects from Pixabay.com under the Pixabay License. These audio files are bundled inside the app and do not require any external connection to play. Attribution is not required but is appreciated.
4.2 Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics)
We use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, provided by Google LLC, to process the anonymous usage and crash data described in section 1.2. Google acts as our data processor for this purpose. Their handling of the data is governed by Google's own terms:
4.3 Firebase Remote Config
The app periodically contacts Firebase Remote Config to check whether a newer version is available and to retrieve the accompanying notice. This request carries the technical information listed in section 1.2 and nothing else.
4.4 In-App Purchases
If you choose to leave a tip, the payment is processed entirely by Apple or Google. We never see or receive your payment details. We record only that a tip of a given product type succeeded, failed or was cancelled.
5. Your Rights and Choices
- Opt out: You can turn off all usage statistics and crash reporting in Settings → Privacy → Usage & Diagnostics. Once switched off, the app stops sending this data immediately, and the choice is remembered.
- Access: You can view all of your data in the app at any time.
- Delete: You can delete any session record at any time, and uninstalling the app removes all local data.
- Control: Because there is no account and no server copy, your data cannot outlive the app on your device.
- Requests: For any question about the analytics data associated with your installation, contact us at the address in section 8. Please note that because the data is anonymous, we may be unable to locate records belonging to a specific person.
6. Children's Privacy
ZenFocus is suitable for all ages and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the analytics described in section 1.2 is anonymous and is never used for advertising or profiling. If you are a parent or guardian and would prefer that no usage data is sent at all, turn off Settings → Privacy → Usage & Diagnostics.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be communicated through app updates.
